The Australian Beef Sustainability Framework (ABSF) 2025 Annual Update is set to launch on 29 October – the location changes each year, and this year Canberra will host the event.

Since 2017, the ABSF has tracked the performance of more than 50 indicators that fall under four key themes of:

·        Environmental stewardship

·        Best animal care

·        Economic resilience

·        People and the community.

Each year, an Annual Update is released to highlight strengths and areas of opportunity for the Australian beef industry.

Data is sourced across Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA), Australian Meat Processing Corporation (AMPC), government, and industry and research organisations to demonstrate progress made by the industry.

Global standards

The Annual Update is has been prepared in reference to the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standards since 2023. This ensures that the report utilises consistent language that can be understood globally.

The report covers the actions of the Australian beef value chain, including:

·        on-farm production

·        saleyards

·        feedlots

·        transport

·        processing

·        live export.

Sharing industry progress

This year’s launch will coincide with Parliament Sitting Week. To reflect this timing, the launch event will emphasise policy relevance, international alignment and Australia’s leadership in beef sustainability.

The event will increase the ability to highlight industry progress and the commitments from industry in a way that will resonate with government, industry, investors and the wider community.
